Social work project of the Auringontalo club«

«Auringontalo is an open space where people of all ages and backgrounds can connect, learn, participate in community events, and find support. We strive to create an environment where people aren't left alone with their challenges and where they have the opportunity to be active participants in the local community.

The social work project focuses primarily on preventing social isolation, supporting people in difficult life situations, and strengthening social connections. Particular attention is paid to children, adolescents, the elderly, immigrants, and other residents who may find it difficult to find their place in a new social environment.

Project objectives

The main goal is to improve social inclusion and quality of life of participants through regular joint activities, communication, training and support.

Main tasks:

• create a safe and accessible space for communication;
• reduce social isolation and loneliness;
• help people establish new social connections;
• support children and adolescents in developing communication and social skills;
• create opportunities for intercultural communication;
• to help immigrants better navigate the life of Finnish society;
• develop volunteerism and mutual assistance;
• strengthen the sense of belonging to the local community;
• to support people's active participation in social and cultural life.

Activity

The project includes regular group classes, club meetings, educational activities, master classes, and joint cultural events.

The chess club holds a special place. Chess is not only an intellectual game but also an effective social tool: it creates a natural opportunity for interaction between people of different ages and backgrounds, develops concentration, independence, decision-making skills, and respect for others.

For children and adolescents, classes and activities are organized to help develop self-confidence, communication skills, the ability to work in a group, and constructively resolve conflicts.

Opportunities are created for adult and senior participants to socialise, learn together, participate in cultural events and volunteer activities.

Integration and intercultural interaction

«Auringontalo brings together people with different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. We view cultural diversity as a community resource.

The project creates situations in which participants can get to know each other through joint activities, and not only through formal language learning or cultural information.

Joint events, folk dancing, music, chess, workshops, and educational meetings help participants discover common interests and form lasting social connections.

VOLUNTEERING

An important part of the project is developing volunteer participation. Participants have the opportunity not only to receive assistance but also to become active members of the community: helping organize events, supporting new members, conducting classes, and participating in project development.

This approach promotes the development of independence, responsibility and a sense of self-worth.

Expected result

As a result of the project, participants gain more opportunities to communicate and actively participate in community life.

We expect:

• reducing social isolation;
• expansion of social contacts of participants;
• increasing the confidence of children, adolescents and adults;
• the emergence of new intercultural connections;
• increasing the participation of residents in volunteer and community activities;
• formation of a sustainable community of mutual support;
• increasing the accessibility of cultural, educational and social events for different groups of the population.

«Auringontalo strives to be more than just a club for people sharing common interests, but a place where people can meet others, receive support, acquire new skills, and feel part of a community.
